Blake Avenue Redesign Open House at 6:30 PM
Tuesday, June 6, 2023
Community invited to open house on June 6 at the CMC Glenwood Center.
Open House Information
The City of Glenwood Springs invites neighbors of the Blake Avenue corridor and Glenwood Springs community members to a public open house for the Blake Avenue Redesign on Tuesday, June 6 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Colorado Mountain College (CMC) Glenwood Center (1402 Blake Avenue, Glenwood Springs, CO 81601).
During the open house, participants will have an opportunity to provide insights on improvements they would like to see in the corridor, prioritize design elements, and comment on four early concepts for Blake Ave. between 7th and 13th Street. These concepts will inform the design development of project plans for the reconstruction of Blake Ave. between 13th and 27th Street.
Each concept shows potential ways to improve safety, function, parking and pedestrian/bike access in the corridor. Participants will be asked to prioritize design elements that they feel are most important to the corridor including pedestrian/bike facilities, traffic calming, on-street parking, and trees. Feedback will be used to select and refine a preferred roadway section alternative for the corridor.
Individuals unable to participate in the in-person open house may alternatively share comments online beginning June 6. Materials will be posted for review and comment on the project webpage at cogs.us/753. There will be multiple opportunities for public comment over the course of design.
Project Background and Goals
The Blake Avenue Redesign project is to develop construction drawings to completely rebuild Blake Avenue between 13th Street and 27th Street, including 23rd, 24th and 26th Streets as part of the project. Including 7th to 13th Street in the design helps staff plan what the whole street section will look like through town and gives a starting point for those block that are in good condition today, but will need improvements in the future.
In 2024, construction is expected to begin on Blake Avenue from 24th to 27th Street, and including, 24th and 26th Street rebuilds between Blake Avenue and State Highway 82. The goals of the redesign are to fix underlying utility/storm/roadway structure issues, improve pedestrian and bike access and safety, improve user experience for multimodal use, enhance traffic calming, upgrade sidewalks and roadway surfacing.
Blake Avenue Redesign is budgeted at $771,000 and is funded through the City’s Street Tax, Water and Sewer Departments, Electric Department and a $100,000 Roaring Fork Transportation Authority First/Last Mile Mobility Reserve (FLMMR) Grant.
