Wastewater Department

Mission Statement
The Water/Wastewater department is a branch of the City’s Public Works department. The department seeks to carry out its responsibilities for the production and distribution of potable and raw water, as well as the collection and treatment of wastewater in a cost effective manner.
The City of Glenwood Springs Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility (RWWTF) went online in August of 2012. The RWWTF was designed by SGM and Tetra Tech for peak flows of 2.3 million gallons of sewer a day. The influent wastewater is treated by extended aeration with aerobic digesters and oxidation ditches. 24 hour odor control is provided by air ionization and air circulation. After the water is treated, it is disinfected by ultra violet radiation and discharged into the Colorado River west of the Midland Bridge in West Glenwood. Biosolids are a natural byproduct of the treatment processes, they are put to beneficial reuse as a land additive on a farm in New Castle, CO.
